Enjoy your morning, dear listener. Keep the grumpiness to a minimum and don’t be afraid to groove a little on your morning walk or commute.
We all have days where we wake up and find it hard to start your day. Whether it’s heading to work or school or family gathering, and without the aid of caffeine, it can be generally difficult to get yourself moving. Regardless of your destination or occupation there’s always a chance that music will factor into your morning. If you’re not listening to it via headphones or car stereo then you have to enjoy the soothing sounds of honking horns, screaming children, screeching subway brakes, jackhammering – it could be anything.
I’m the type of person who needs to drown out all of the noise that plagues my morning commute – and since I live in New York City I need the right kind of music to help me get to work. I’m also the type of person who can’t listen to anything extremely loud or high-energy in the morning either. Put on dubstep or pop music before 10am and I will give you the stare of death. I may even be as bold as to shut your laptop down if it’s polluting my peace and quiet with noise. Don’t get me wrong – I consider myself a morning person. Just make sure there is a freshly brewed cup of coffee and pure, pleasant silence wake up.
What does this have to do with being a morning person or the morning commute? This blend provides just the right amount of energy to get you through the morning. It’s not too loud nor is it too heavy. There are a few upbeat selections here that might get your derriere while you’re seated on the train or in your car. It may even wake you up without overstimulating you like that third cup of coffee you’re desperately craving. The opening track, “Jouissance” by The Ocean Blue, reminds me of those early morning talk shows you’d hear on the radio. It was specifically chosen to open this mixtape to serve as the perfect accompaniment to your morning cup of coffee.
From there we begin our blend with a few early 90s classics from the glory days of the rave era. These “early morning breakbeats” will get you through your morning ritual. They’re not loud, they’re not fast nor or are they obtrusive. They will help you settle in, dear listener, and from there the beats pickup gradually. Though this blend is flavored with songs from the 90s there are a few selections from this decade – notably G-Pal’s “Afterlife” and Way Out West’s 2010 remix of their own 90s classic “The Gift”. In case you were wondering who provides the vocals for this song it’s none other than Ms. Joanne West.
If you find yourself without your preferred listening device then take comfort in knowing that this blend will be here for you tomorrow morning. And the morning after…
