A nostalgia mixtape full of gorgeous house music to fill your afternoons with sunsets and palm trees.
There are three specific songs in this blend that I have to talk about first. If it wasn’t for these three songs then I’m pretty sure this blend would not exist. I’m pretty sure I would have created this blend at some point in my life but the end result wouldn’t be the same with these particular songs. My daughter, Alexandria, had introduced me to these three songs a week before my wedding. Although one of these songs was included in our wedding reception, all three were used to soundtrack our incredible honeymoon in Hawaii.
I’ve detailed each respective song in order to give you a better idea:
Sigala – Easy Love (Faaiirr Remix)
My wife and I created a solid and memorable list of music for our reception. Our family and guests were on the dancefloor getting their groove on. Of course not all of the songs we picked, respectively, made it onto this list. Some simply didn’t fit with our wedding theme while others seemed extremely out of place. This particular song was suggested by my daughter, and one that me and my wife both loved but simply didn’t fit with our theme. The Jackson 5 sample made it even more difficult to exclude since our first dance was to, not one but, two Michael Jackson songs. I chose it as my opening track as a “thank-you” to my daughter for introducing me to such a wonderful tune.
RÜFÜS DU SOL – Sundream
My daughter and I spend a lot of time in the car. When we’re not engaged in lengthy discussions involving the price of tea in China, we’re listening to music. Usually she will put one of her many Spotify playlists so she can DJ for me. This particular tune was introduced to me because she said it was my kind of song. She had discovered it on Spotify and her curiosity lead her to a gorgeous house song that I played for my wife as we cruised the islands of Kaui and Maui.
Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne – Rather Be (The Magician Remix)
My wife had a clever idea for our reception – surprise my daughter with a father-daughter dance. The plan would be to find a song that we both enjoy and dance with her after the other obligatory dances. It would catch her off-guard but provide my daughter with a fond memory. However I had a better idea – what if my daughter and I actually planned a father-daughter dance but didn’t tell anyone? Better yet: what if we brought my wife into the dance at the very end? Unbeknownst to everyone, my daughter and I choreographed our dance to this song and, in my opinion, stole the show.
Nostalgia aside, the rest of this blend is specifically crafted for those sunset drives along the ocean or through your favorite city or with your friends on a beautiful evening. Perhaps you’ll introduce one of these songs to someone you love and use it to create your own nostalgia-infused mixtape.
